Before you buy

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a SIM card built into your phone. Instead of a tiny piece of plastic that physically slots in, the eSIM lives in the phone’s hardware and can be programmed remotely with a QR code or an install link.

Practically: you can hold two phone numbers/plans on one device — your home SIM stays active, and the RoamFree eSIM gives you data abroad without swapping anything physical or paying roaming fees.

Will my phone work with an eSIM?

Most phones from 2020 onwards support eSIM. Specifically:

  • iPhone: XS / XR (2018) or newer — every iPhone from the XS line onwards.
  • Android: Pixel 4 (2019) or newer; Galaxy S20 (2020) or newer; Galaxy Note 20, Z Fold/Flip; most flagships from 2020 onward.

Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked (not locked to your home network). Most phones bought outright, or after the contract has ended, are unlocked. If unsure: on iPhone, Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock. On Android, Settings → About phone → SIM status.

We’ll check compatibility with you before checkout — no surprises.

Which countries do you cover?

We sell single-country eSIMs for 21 curated destinations and regional bundles covering Western Europe, South America, Caribbean, Asia, and a Global option spanning 100+ countries. Browse by destination to see what plans are available where you’re going.

How does delivery work?

Delivery is instant by email. The moment your payment clears, we send your install email with a one-tap install button for iPhone and Android, a QR code, and a manual activation code. You’ll also get a separate receipt email confirming payment.

Installing and activating

When does my plan’s validity start?

The validity period (e.g. 7 days, 30 days) starts when your eSIM first connects to a network at your destination — not when you buy it, and not when you install it.

This means you can buy days or weeks before you travel, install the eSIM when convenient, and the clock only starts when you land. Install early, travel relaxed.

Can I install the eSIM before I leave home?

Yes, and we recommend it. Install at home over Wi-Fi while you have time. The eSIM sits dormant on your phone until it connects to a network at your destination. That’s when validity starts and you start paying for time.

I bought the eSIM on the same phone I’m installing on — what now?

Easy. Open the install email on the phone, tap the "Install on iPhone" or "Install on Android" button. Your phone’s eSIM setup opens pre-filled. Confirm. Done.

I’m on desktop or buying for someone else — what now?

The install email includes a QR code. Open your phone’s camera and point it at the QR — most phones will offer to install the eSIM. Or forward the email to whoever’s using it, and they can tap the install button on their own phone.

Using your eSIM abroad

Will my normal phone number still work?

Yes. Your home SIM (physical or eSIM) stays active alongside the RoamFree eSIM. Your usual phone number, texts, calls, WhatsApp — all work as normal. We just provide the mobile data for when you’re abroad.

Can I use the eSIM for hotspot/tethering?

Yes, in most cases — but it depends on the specific plan. Look for the "Tethering: yes" line on the plan card before checkout. If a plan supports tethering, you can share its data connection with your laptop, tablet, or anyone else’s device.

Refunds, problems, and support

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

If you haven’t installed the eSIM yet: yes, within 24 hours of purchase, no questions asked. Email [email protected] with your order reference.

If you’ve already installed it: the activation code is single-use — once consumed, it can’t be reused, so refunds aren’t available for change of mind. If the eSIM is faulty on our side, we’ll fix it or refund — see our Refund Policy.

I’m at my destination and the eSIM isn’t working — help.

Most common fix, in order:

  1. Settings → Cellular (iPhone) or Network & Internet (Android) → confirm the RoamFree eSIM is turned on.
  2. Same screen → confirm Data Roaming is ON for the RoamFree line.
  3. Cellular data setting (which line is your data line?) → set to RoamFree.
  4. Airplane mode on for 10 seconds, then off — forces the phone to re-search for networks.

If still stuck, email [email protected] with your order reference and a quick description of the issue. Real humans, usually replying within a couple of hours.

I’ve lost the install email — can I get the QR again?

Yes. Visit check usage and enter your order reference — you’ll get a link to the install page with the QR. Or email us at [email protected] and we’ll resend.

How do I check how much data I’ve used?

Visit check usage and enter your order reference. You’ll see data used, data remaining, and days left on the plan. Updates every few minutes as you browse.
